It remains debatable whether Scream Blood Gore was the first true death-metal album, but one thing’s for sure: Death’s landmark debut certainly helped codify thrash’s disgusting little brother as a dangerously-paced next wave mutation of metal. 

Drunk off whatever soup was spilling out of his goblet of gore, Chuck Schuldiner delivered horror tales more viscous than his later philosophical ponderings, while he and drummer Chris Reifert rarely took their foot off the gas through this manic-paced must-have — presented here on guts-spilling violet, red and white splatter vinyl.
