Iron Maiden conquered the metal realm with their 1982 breakout, The Number of the Beast. Proving that was no fluke, the band quickly followed that up the next year with another all-time banger. Piece of Mind features tracks that further perfected Maiden’s gallop-paced approach to songwriting (“The Trooper”) while also offering sturdy hard-rock hooks (“Flight of Icarus”) and prog-metal tributes to Dune (“To Tame a Land”)
It's also the first album to feature drummer Nicko McBrain, who notably thunders the album into overdrive with the opening fill from “Where Eagles Dare.” A Maiden essential, through and through.
