Chaos A.D. was a major breakthrough point for Sepultura. Beyond being their major label debut, the Brazilian mavericks decided to refurnish their sound on their fifth LP, slowing down portions of their death-thrash riffage into groovy, gnashing power surges. Fusing hardcore ferocity and death metal intensity with the articulate musicianship of thrash and a whole lot of anger, Chaos A.D. was a defining metal record of its time, and one of the band’s finest achievements.
