Superunknown captures Soundgarden at their most fully-realized. Chris Cornell had already proven himself a formidable metal wailer with a band who could back him with serious songwriting chops, but their 1994 opus took every element of their sound a step further. The 70-minute epic is eerily psychedelic and immediately tuneful, but also brash and heavy and brimming with raw rock power.
